§ Pricing Transparent Flat Fees

Flat fees,
plainly disclosed.

Access to justice begins with predictable pricing. Where a matter can be handled on a flat fee, we set the fee up front and we honour it. Where hourly work is more appropriate, we quote a range and provide written estimates before substantial work begins.

The advertised fee covers all legal work for a residential transaction: title review, requisitions, Statement of Adjustments, closing coordination, electronic registration through Teraview, and post-closing delivery of your ownership documents. Standard disbursements, HST, Land Transfer Tax, and third-party charges are billed separately on a pass-through basis.

§ 05 — Hourly Matters

When flat won't work.

Some matters — contested family files, significant litigation, complex business transactions — cannot responsibly be quoted on a flat fee because the time required depends on the other side. For these, we work on an hourly basis with regular written updates.

Our hourly rate, and a reasonable written estimate of the likely cost of the matter, is provided before we accept the engagement. The estimate is updated if the scope of the matter changes. Invoices are rendered monthly and are itemized by date and task.

For smaller matters and one-off advice, we also offer limited-scope engagements — sometimes called "unbundled" retainers — where we handle a discrete piece of a matter for a defined fee, leaving the balance of the work to the client. Not every matter is suitable for this arrangement, but where it is, it can significantly reduce the overall cost.

All pricing is subject to conflict check Before Avion Law can accept any engagement, a conflict check is performed to confirm we are able to act. No fee is payable for the initial consultation (up to thirty minutes), and no work is billed until a written retainer has been executed. The consultation itself is a conversation about your matter and whether Avion Law is the right fit — it is not an opportunity to obtain free legal advice.
